An Air Force pilot was killed and two others were hurt during a “mishap” at a Texas base Friday, according to military officials.
Two T-38C Talon trainer aircraft were involved in the fatal incident at Laughlin Air Force Base, according to a press release from the 47th Flying Training Wing.
The name of the dead pilot had not been released as of Friday night. One of the injured pilots was in critical condition, the Air Force said.
Military officials did not provide details about the cause of the incident, which was under investigation.
“Losing teammates is unbelievably painful and it is with a heavy heart I express my sincere condolences,” Col. Craig Prather, commander of the 47th Flying Training Wing, said in the release. “Our hearts, thoughts, and prayers are with our pilots involved in this mishap and their families.”
Laughlin Air Force Base is several miles from the southern border, just outside Del Rio.
