An Alabama toddler died when he was accidentally run over by a truck driven by his mom’s boyfriend, authorities said.
Ivan Alexander Aguilar Jr., a 19-month-old boy from Horton, was found dead beneath a truck after he wandered out of his Nixon Chapel Road home late Saturday without being noticed, AL.com reported.
Marshall County Assistant Chief Deputy Steve Guthrie said the boyfriend of Ivan’s mother moved the truck while unaware that the boy was beneath the vehicle. His mother, Lexie Ramirez, and her boyfriend later found him dead under the truck, Guthrie said.
“There was no foul play,” Guthrie told the outlet. “It was just an unfortunate catastrophe.”
No charges will be filed in the boy’s death. A coroner pronounced Ivan dead at the scene, WAAY reported.
Ramirez told WAFF the death of her only child who was set to turn two in February was a “tragic accident.” His funeral is set for 11 a.m. Wednesday.
“He did not do it on purpose, we did not see him,” Ramirez told the station, adding that her son was behind the truck. “It was very hard for us because my boyfriend had been a wonderful dad. He’s not the biological father, but the baby loved him so much.”
Ramirez said her son “loved the outside” and watching cartoons like Cocomelon.
“I will miss his laughs, spending time with him, waking up with him by my side, him running up to me from day care and everything about him,” the grieving mother said.
An online fundraiser set up to help offset funeral costs has raised more than $4,500 as of Wednesday.
“Baby Ivan was run over and he passed immediately,” the website reads. “His passing was the most unexpected and devastating event for everyone involved.”
Wednesday’s graveside service for Ivan will be held at Memory Hill Cemetery in Dothan, according to his obituary in the Sand Mountain Reporter. He’s survived by his mother, father Ivan Aguilar, three grandparents and several aunts and uncles.
