Amanda Knox says she has reached out to Meredith Kercher's family

Amanda Knox, the cleared former murder suspect once dubbed “Foxy Knoxy,” said in a podcast Wednesday that she has reached out to the family of her slain ex-roommate — as she is still haunted by the prospect “it could have been me.”

The 34-year-old new mom said on the podcast “Call Her Daddy” that she has sent messages “telling [the family], ‘I want to have a relationship with you. I want to talk to you.’”

She said she is now “waiting to see if that’s something that they want too.”

Knox was studying abroad in Perugia, Italy, when she was accused of helping then-beau Raffaele Sollecito kill her roomie, Meredith Kercher, in a supposed sex game gone wrong in 2007.

The pair were convicted in 2009 and then acquitted on appeal in 2011 — before being convicted again in 2014.

The duo was then exonerated once and for all by Italy’s highest court in 2015.

A man named Rudy Guede was later convicted of the crime.

Knox, an author who also hosts the Labyrinths podcast with husband Christopher Robinson, in October announced the birth of their daughter, Eureka Muse, several months earlier.

Knox told podcast host, Alexandra Cooper, she has had not contacted Kercher’s family directly herself.

“I know that at least in the past, like, it’s unclear to me at this point how they feel about me. And I don’t want to like force a relationship on them if it’s traumatic for them,” she said.

“So I have sent messages to them through intermediaries telling them I want to have a relationship with you. I want to talk to you. And I’m waiting to see if that’s something that they want, too.”

Knox confessed she often thinks about her former roommate.

“I’m especially thinking about that now that I’ve had a daughter because, like, on the anniversary of her death for the past many, many years, 14 years, I’ve always sort of put myself in her shoes, and thinking like, ‘Oh my god, what must it have been like?’” she said.

“What were her last moments ever as a person. Horrible, horrible moments. Thinking ‘Oh my god, it could have been me.’ And this year I couldn’t help but put myself in her mom’s shoes, and think, ‘Oh my god, if that happened to my baby.’ What do you do?”

The new mom said she just wants to know the “truth” and for Kercher’s family to get “closure.”

“I want the same thing that they want. I want to know the truth. I want to know what happened to Meredith. I want her to be recognized for who she was, and I want their suffering to be recognized for what it is. And I want them to get the closure that they deserve. I want that, too,” she said.

“That’s why I have really complicated feelings about her killer, Rudy Guede, because I’ve spent time in prison now, too. Because he’s out,” Knox added.

Guede, an immigrant from the Ivory Coast, was released from prison early after being sentenced in 2008 to 30 years behind bars for killing Kercher.

He had the sentence reduced to 16 years on appeal and was then granted partial prison release in 2017 before being allowed by an Italian court to serve the remainder of his term — which ends in March 2022 — on community service.

“I know that he was a very young man when he made this colossal horrible decision to rape and murder Meredith,” Knox said Wednesday.

“I don’t know how he feels about that today. I would hope that he regrets that. He hasn’t actually shown that he acknowledges what he did, and he hasn’t, like, admitted to it and asked forgiveness, so it doesn’t give me a super hopeful feeling that he truly feels rehabilitated even,” she said.

Despite the fact that she has been cleared in the sensational case, Knox said she is still tied to the murder.

“His name is not the one that is affiliated with this horrible crime. Mine is,” she said, referring to Guede.

“I wish that I could have a better word, but I think if I was going to be totally honest I’m angry, angry and I’m still angry. That doesn’t mean I can’t have compassion for him but I am angry,” Knox continued.

“I don’t think that my name should ever have been associated with his actions, and the fact that no one seems to really care about him, given that they were his actions, really bugs me out.”
