WASHINGTON – A soldier was killed in a shooting Monday at Georgia’s Fort Stewart, the Army confirmed.
The victim, whose name has not been released, was shot shortly before 10 a.m. in a tank brigade’s complex on the base, according to a statement.
The victim was treated by emergency responders at the scene, but was later pronounced dead.

Law enforcement arrived on scene at 10:04 a.m. and arrested an unidentified suspect, according to the statement.
Army officials declined to release further information, citing the ongoing investigation.
Fort Stewart will release the soldier’s identity after their next-of-kin is notified.

Officials declined to say whether the suspect is either a service member or a civilian.
Fort Stewart, located about 40 miles southwest of Savannah, is the largest Army post east of the Mississippi River. It is the home base of the Army’s 3rd Infantry Division.
