Baltimore shockwave from huge CSX plant explosion rocks city

A massive explosion in Baltimore sent shockwaves across the entire city on Thursday.

A five-story coal silo exploded at the CSX Cole Plant Building in a South Baltimore industrial area shortly before midday, according to firefighters.

“Hazmat, special rescue units and fireboats were on the scene,” local firefighters said in a tweet.

“Shockwave could be felt citywide.”

No injuries have been reported yet, Baltimore City Councilwoman Phylicia Porter said.

“We are aware of the explosion that took place today at the CSX Cole Plant Building in Curtis Bay,” Porter said on Twitter.

“Our office is working with Mayor [Brandon] Scott to address this as swiftly and safely as possible.”

Firefighters believed a CSX train was moving through a tunnel when the coal exploded, according to local news outlet WMAR-2.

Authorities urged people to stay away from the site of the explosion.

Baltimore residents took to social media saying the sheer force of the shockwave felt like an earthquake.
