Bill Clinton improving, will stay in hospital amid infection

Former President Bill Clinton’s condition is improving, but he will remain in a California hospital until at least Saturday, after a urological infection sidelined him for most of the week, according to a rep.

“All health indicators are trending in the right direction, including his white blood count which has decreased significantly,” Angel Ureña, a spokesman for Clinton, said in a statement.

“In order to receive further IV antibiotics, he will remain in the hospital overnight.

“President Clinton continues to be in excellent spirits, and is deeply grateful for the outstanding care he is receiving and the well wishes that people have sent from across America and around the world.”

Clinton, 75, has been recovering since he went into the University of California Irvine Medical Center on Tuesday, according to doctors.

His wife, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, was by his side for the second day in a row, but the couple’s daughter, Chelsea, hadn’t made the trip out to the West Coast, according to The Associated Press.

President Joe Biden knocked on wood while speaking of Clinton, a fellow Democrat who Biden said seemed to be “doing well” despite the health scare and days-long hospital stay.

“I know you’re asking about President Clinton,” Biden said at a news conference in Connecticut on Friday. “I’ve been changing, exchanging calls — he seems to be, God willing, doing well.”

He knocked on the podium as he delivered the remarks.

Biden planned to call Clinton in the hospital to wish him a speedy recovery, the White House said earlier in the day.

The ex-commander-in-chief was hit with a urinary-tract infection that spread to his bloodstream, according to his doctors. But he never went into septic shock and did not receive ICU treatment even though he was staying in the ICU unit, an aide told the AP.

Clinton had been watching TV coverage of his hospitalization and reading, the AP said.
