A truck crashed into a US military vehicle in the German province of Bavaria Monday, forcing eight soldiers to a local hospital for precautionary screening, according to a report.
The military truck was on the shoulder of the A3 highway near Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz — about 20 miles southeast of Nuremberg — when it was rear-ended by the civilian rig, the Associated Press said.
German police said the crash appeared to be an accident.
The Army truck was part of a convoy traveling from Hohenfels towards Grafenwoeher and pulled over when it became separated from the rest of the vehicles, the 7th Army Training Command said.
A total of three Army vehicles were damaged in the crash, the command added.
Images show the military truck engulfed in flames as thick clouds of black smoke rise into the sky and firefighters respond to the scene.
Other photos show the charred vehicles cloaked in white firefighting foam after the flames were knocked down.
