The boyfriend of a missing Georgia teacher whose body was found in Mexico has been arrested in connection to her mysterious disappearance, prosecutors said.
Fidel Barragan, 28, was taken into custody after 24-year-old Alexandra Morales’ remains were discovered last week on the side of the road in Guadalajara, Univision reported.
Morales, a first-grade teacher at Benefield Elementary School in Gwinnett County, was reported missing after her family became unable to reach her on her vacation to Mexico.
She was last heard from her on Oct. 30, when she attended a concert in Zapopan, near Guadalajara.
The circumstances surrounding her death are not clear.
Barragan has only been charged in connection to her disappearance, but more charges could be filed, the outlet reported.
Principal Shonda Gipson-Stevens sent a letter home to parents at Morales’ school last week informing them of her death.
“We were all very hopeful that they would find her and she would be returning safely, but that was not the case,” a school spokesperson told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
