The woman who was shot dead on a bus in Northern California was identified Friday as a single mother who was moving her family across the country for a new life.

Karin Dalton, 43, was killed when a passenger that was acting erratically opened fire at a rest stop in Oroville, an hour north of Sacramento, on Wednesday, the Butte County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release.

Alleged killer Asaahdi Elijah Coleman, 21, was arrested after he fled to a nearby Walmart, where police reportedly found him naked.

Dalton and her 14-year-old son and an 11-year-old daughter were leaving their old home in Seattle to move to New Mexico, according to The Los Angeles Times.

Dalton’s daughter was being treated after being shot twice in the face, and was expected to recover, the newspaper reported. The girl’s brother was not harmed.

The children were reportedly expected to return to Washington to stay with family.

Coleman, who faces 148 years in prison in connection with one count of murder and four counts of attempted murder, reportedly became “agitated” by a phone call he made when the LA-bound bus stopped in Chico.

“He was exhibiting what I think could best be described as paranoid behavior,” Sheriff Kory Honea reportedly said. “There was some indication that he thought one of the passengers was an undercover law enforcement officer.”

Coleman reportedly returned to the bus and brandished a firearm to fellow riders while discussing the dangers of Los Angeles, before opening fire at disembarking passengers at the next stop.

A pregnant woman and two men were also shot, in addition to Dalton and her daughter, police said.
