Child killed in hit-and-run sledding in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma

A 12-year-old boy was killed in a hit-and-run accident when he sledded onto a road Oklahoma, police said.

The youngster, whose identity wasn’t immediately released, was one of two boys struck by vehicles in separate incidents less than an hour apart while sledding Thursday in Broken Arrow, police said.

“In each of the incidents, the juveniles were sledding when they entered the roadway and the collision occurred,” department officials said in a statement.

Cops were searching Friday for the late-model white pickup truck with darkened windows and extended mirrors in connection to the deadly accident.

The truck did not stop after plowing into the boy, who was rushed to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. He later died from his injuries, police said.

It’s unclear if the driver of the truck was aware of hitting the boy, but investigators want to track the vehicle down, a police spokesman told The Post.

“A lot of people were out sledding,” spokesman Chris Walker said, noting that about 6 inches of snow had fallen. “The 12-year-old slid into the roadway and the vehicle left. So we want to contact him, that’s our number one goal in this.”

If investigators determine the driver was aware of hitting the boy, charges could be filed, Walker said.

The dead boy’s family has requested privacy, police said.

Some 45 minutes after the first accident, a second 12-year-old boy was struck by another vehicle while sledding about 7 miles away.

The second boy was dragged an unknown distance before the vehicle stopped. The driver stayed at the scene and the boy — who apparently had minor injuries — was taken to a hospital by private means, Walker said.

Both accidents occurred as the boys were sledding on hills on private property.

“That’s just extraordinary,” Walker said of the two incidents occurring within an hour’s span.
