The last remaining suspect in the 2019 shooting of former baseball player David Ortiz was killed following a dramatic car chase in the Dominican Republic Sunday.
Luis Alfredo Rivas Clase, known as “El Cirujano,” or “The Surgeon” was shot to death after he crashed a stolen car in front of a Santiago mall, according to DR Spanish language outlet Listin Diario.
When he tried to flee the scene on foot he was “riddled with bullets” by his pursuers, who fled the scene, according to the newspaper.
Rivas Clase was an alleged mastermind of the attack on Ortiz, who was shot in the back at a Santo Domingo bar along with Dominican TV host Jhoel López.
He was also wanted for a number of criminal offenses, including an April 2018 shooting in Reading, Pa.
Dominican authorities said the ambush on Big Papi was a botched hit on another man who was sitting next to the slugger.
The former Red Sox, who is a beloved figure in his native DR, underwent several surgeries in Boston during his recovery.
