Ex-Facebook lawyer Jessica Hertz resigns as Biden staff secretary

Former Facebook attorney Jessica Hertz is resigning her powerful post as White House staff secretary, according to a new report.

Hertz will depart “in the coming days,” Politico reported Tuesday. It’s unclear why she is leaving the position, which controls most paperwork that reaches President Biden’s desk.

Hertz worked in DC as Facebook’s associate general counsel for regulatory issues for more than two years — departing the position in June 2020 to serve as general counsel of the Biden presidential transition team.

She previously served Biden as an attorney in his vice presidential office from 2012-2014.

The staff secretary position can be extremely powerful, but Hertz was rarely spotted by journalists and kept a low public profile.

The White House did not respond to The Post’s request for comment.

Jessica Hertz, a former Facebook executrive, currently serves as the General Counsel for the Biden-Harris Transition.
Jessica Hertz also worked as an associate general counsel for Facebook in the nation’s capital.

The departure comes shortly after a self-professed Facebook whistleblower, former product manager Frances Haugen, testified to Congress last week, alleging that the company puts profit over the mental health of users, including children.

Republicans since last year have pushed for legal reforms for social media after Facebook and Twitter censored The Post’s reporting on a Hunter Biden hard drive that linked the then-Democratic presidential candidate to his son’s business relationships in China and Ukraine.

Prominent former White House staff secretaries include Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh and failed Supreme Court nominee Harriet Miers, both of whom served President George W. Bush.

One of President Donald Trump’s staff secretaries, Rob Porter, was ousted in 2018 after both of his ex-wives accused him of abuse.
