Father of New Hampshire girl last seen in 2019 arrested for assault

The father of a 7-year-old New Hampshire girl who was reported missing last week — more than two years after she was last seen — has been arrested on assault and other charges in connection with her disappearance.

Adam Montgomery, 31, was arrested Tuesday in Manchester on a charge of felony second-degree assault for alleged “conduct against Harmony Montgomery” stemming from 2019, Attorney General John Formella said in a release.

He also faces misdemeanor counts of interference with custody and endangering the welfare of a child, according to the joint statement by Fomella, Hillsborough County Attorney John Coughlin and Manchester Police Chief Allen Aldenberg.

Harmony, however, is still missing and authorities are asking the public for help.

“Officials are continuing to search for Harmony and are requesting the public’s assistance in locating her,” the statement added.

Police only learned last week from the New Hampshire Division for Children, Youth and Families that the girl had gone missing under circumstances the chief called “very concerning,” according to the Washington Post.

Investigators later determined that Harmony was last seen at a Manchester home when cops responded to a “call for service” at the residence in October 2019, Aldenberg told reporters at a news conference on Dec. 31.

Harmony’s mother, Crystal Renee Sorey, told police that her daughter was under the legal custody of Montgomery and that the two had both struggled with substance abuse issues, according to an affidavit filed Wednesday in Hillsborough County Superior Court obtained by NBC News.

The mom last saw her daughter on a video call in April 2019, the affidavit states.

Harmony had also spent time in foster care in Massachusetts, where she looked after her younger brother, Jamison, the boy’s father, Blair Miller, told the Washington Post.

Miller told the paper that by the time he adopted the boy in 2019, state officials informed him that Harmony had been reunited with her dad. He told the paper that Sorey had said she could not reach her daughter.

Harmony — who is blind in her right eye and wears glasses — was described as 4 feet tall with blond hair and blue eyes, weighing about 50 pounds.

Callahan Walsh, a spokesperson for the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, told Fox News Digital he was glad Montgomery has been arrested.

“I think that’s step one. That way law enforcement can really question him,” he said.
