Doral cops shot a suspect dead on Friday after he crashed his car and began firing at responding officers, according to reports.
The deadly incident started with a dispute at a store that prompted one man to chase another in a vehicle, according to News 7 Miami.
As one of the officers was investigating at the scene where the suspect crashed into a tree, the driver left his car and shot at the cops about 11 a.m. Friday, police said.
“He jumped out of his car and opened fire,” spokesperson Officer Rey Valdes, said during a press conference, according to a local TV station.
The suspect was subsequently killed by the cops near Miami-Dade Police Department station “as a result of the gunfire exchange with officers,” the Doral Police spokesperson told CNN.
Doral police identified the suspect as Yordany Rodriguez Perez, 25, according to local news reports. The suspect chased a man from City Electric Supply in a BMW, according to Local 10 news.


One of the Doral officers was shot in his chest, leg and arm, reports said. A bulletproof vest likely saved his life, noted the police department spokesman.
“Fortunately, he was wearing a bulletproof vest,” Valdes said, according to News 7 Miami. “The bulletproof vest took the round,”
He is currently listed in serious but stable condition, the outlet reported.



A second officer was grazed on the left cheek by either glass or shrapnel, local news outlets reported. He was taken to a local hospital, according to reports.
“It’s just a stark reminder of the danger that our officers face,” said Valdes.
A bystander who the rep was “in the wrong place at the wrong time” suffered relatively minor injuries to his leg, according to CNN.
