Footage shows unprovoked stabbing in Vancouver coffee shop

Shocking footage from inside a coffee shop in Canada shows a stranger repeatedly stab a 25-year-old man in an “unprompted” daytime attack, police said Monday.

In the surveillance video, the unknown attacker in a gray and black sweatshirt charges at the victim from behind and jabs a blade into him as he puts on his coat inside the Tim Hortons at Harbour Centre around 6:20 a.m. Saturday, Vancouver police said.

As the victim falls to the floor, his attacker is seen bolting out of the store.

The victim was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening stab wounds but is expected to survive, authorities said.

Vancouver police Sgt. Steve Addison called the incident “disturbing,” adding that it came without warning.

“We’re increasingly worried about the public’s safety,” Addison said. “We need anyone who witnessed this assault to come forward, and we urge anyone who recognizes the suspect to call police.”

Addison said it’s unclear if there was a motive for the attack but stressed that it appears “random and unprovoked.” He said the victim and alleged suspect did not know each other and did not appear to have any “significant interactions” prior to the attack.

Police described the suspect as a man in his 20s, about 6 feet 2, with short black hair and a slim build.

Saturday’s incident comes just three days after Vancouver police released security footage showing another unprovoked attack.

According to police, the two men did not have any “significant interactions” before the stabbing.

That video showed a 22-year-old woman who was attacked outside Hotel Georgia on New Year’s Eve. Authorities said the incident reignited talks about public safety in the downtown area.

“We recognize these incidents cause significant anxiety and trepidation in the community,” Addison said. “However, it’s important that we talk about them so we can solve these crimes and people can make informed decisions about their personal safety.”
