Gov. Ron DeSantis takes aim at AOC's maskless Miami brunch

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis taunted “lockdown” politicians Monday, joking he would be a “wealthy man” if he got a dollar for every lawmaker who fled COVID-19 restrictions — after progressive firebrand Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was spotted partying maskless in the Sunshine State.

The Republican leader smiled and then chuckled when asked at a press conference about the Democratic New York lawmaker socializing at a packed drag bar in Miami, despite her support for mandates in her home state.

“If I had a dollar for every lockdown politician who decided to escape to Florida over the last two years, I’d be a pretty doggone wealthy man, let me tell ya,” DeSantis, 43, replied with a smile.

“Congresspeople, mayors, governors — I mean, you name it,” he said.

“There are probably about a half-dozen governors who had restrictions on their people and then were spotted at various points in Florida,” he said, suggesting some did so in secret but “people tell me these things.”

“I think a lot of Floridians say, ‘Wait a minute, you’re bashing us because we’re not doing your draconian policies, and yet we’re the first place you want to flee to, to basically be able to enjoy life,’” he said.

AOC has come under fire for partying in Miami despite the Big Apple suffering a record surge of COVID-19 cases.

She seemed happy to go without a mask while enjoying the sun — and kept no distance in her socializing as she was seen giving actor Billy Porter a long hug at the party.

This is despite the Democratic firebrand being vocal in her support of New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, who announced Friday that the Empire State’s “Vax or Mask” mandate for businesses would be extended until Feb. 1 amid a surge in COVID-19 cases.

The progressive congresswoman was also ridiculed online for blaming Republican attacks on “very obvious, strange, and deranged sexual frustrations.”

At his press conference, DeSantis said he was just “happy that Florida is a place where people know they can come and they can live like normal people.”

“You look what’s going on in other states — they’re letting hysteria drive them to doing really damaging things,” he said.

“We are 100 percent committed to making sure that people are able to live their lives, that our kids are able to get an education, that people’s businesses are able to operate and that people have jobs. And so that is just non-negotiable.”
