Harris claims she and Biden 'getting things done'

Vice President Kamala Harris insisted Thursday that she and President Biden are on the same page following a report earlier this week that she has been increasingly sidelined in the administration.

“We’re getting things done, and we’re doing it together,” Harris told ABC’s “Good Morning America” Thursday, days after CNN reported that the working relationship between the two had devolved into an “exhausted stalemate.”

In the same report, Harris allies suggested that the first woman and first woman of color to be vice president had been entrusted with politically explosive issues — like the ongoing border crisis — and had not received the level of support given to other members of the administration.

When “GMA” co-host George Stephanopoulos asked Harris if she felt “misused or underused,” the veep responded: “No, I don’t.”

“I’m very, very excited about the work that we have accomplished,” Harris added. “But I am also absolutely, absolutely clear-eyed that there is a lot more to do, and we’re gonna get it done.”

On Monday, hours after the CNN report dropped, Biden and Harris attempted to put on a united front during a ceremony to mark the signing of a $1.2 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill.

While walking to the stage, the two briefly put an arm around each other’s shoulders –though a gap emerged a few seconds later when Harris appeared to veer slightly away from the president.

Spokespeople for the White House and Harris’s office have insisted all is well between the president and vice president.

During Monday’s briefing, White House press secretary Jen Psaki described Harris as a “valuable member of the team.”

“I know that the president relies on the vice president for her advice, for her counsel,” said Psaki, who added. “She’s not looking for a cushy role here — no vice president is, no president is.”

Harris’s spokeswoman Symone Sanders has dismissed the CNN report as “gossip.”

“It is unfortunate that after a productive trip to France in which we reaffirmed our relationship with America’s oldest ally and demonstrated US leadership on the world stage, and following passage of a historic, bipartisan infrastructure bill that will create jobs and strengthen our communities, some in the media are focused on gossip — not on the results that the president and the vice president have delivered,” Sanders said Sunday night.

The CNN report also stated that some associates of Harris have suggested that the White House is trying to elevate Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg over Harris to be the presumptive Democratic standard-bearer in either 2024 or 2028.

When Stephanopoulos asked Harris if she had discussed with Biden whether he would seek a second term, she answered: “Absolutely not.”
