An Italian man tried to kill his neighbor by filling his house with gas through a tube running into a wall, according to reports.
The 63-year-old man from Bianzè, about 25 miles northeast of Turin, was arrested after his neighbor returned home from the supermarket on Aug. 15 and smelled the noxious fumes while spotting the tube, la Repubblica reported Monday.
The man’s neighbor first noticed a strong smell of gas inside a nearby courtyard and proceeded to check his boiler to make sure it wasn’t leaking. He then noticed a gas cylinder connected to a tube that went into his wall, the newspaper reported.
The shocked man — who has had prior disputes with his neighbor — called firefighters to inspect the cylinder and the tube. Investigators were then able to trace the device to the 63-year-old after clearing the house of gas, citing “irrefutable evidence” and a “serious circumstantial picture” against the alleged attacker.
Several other nearby residents told investigators the pair had “disagreements in the past,” according to the report.
The 63-year-old man, who has been charged with attempted murder, was ordered to be held in prison over the weekend, la Repubblica reported.
No one was hurt in the incident, which stemmed from “old rusts” between the two neighbors, according to La Stampa.
