Oh, there she is.

Vice President Kamala Harris on Wednesday traveled to California to urge voters to support Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom in a recall election next week — after she’s remained conspicuously out of the public eye as recent crises enveloped President Biden.

Harris has a public event scheduled with Newsom, who’s been accused of hypocrisy for imposing COVID-19 restrictions before treating himself to a mask-free indoor soiree.

Harris has taken no reporter questions in the nearly two weeks since she returned from a trip to Singapore and Vietnam as Afghanistan fell to the Taliban amid Biden’s frenzied withdrawal of troops.

Biden’s approval rating tanked amid the desperate Kabul evacuation that left behind hundreds of Americans and killed 13 US troops.

And that’s not all Harris has been publicly invisible for.

The fall of Kabul happened as new COVID-19 cases soared despite widespread vaccination, causing public approval for Biden’s pandemic management to decline, and as illegal immigration continued to grow.

New economic concerns about hiring and inflation, meanwhile, threaten Biden’s push to pass a $4.7 trillion pair of infrastructure and social spending bills this month.

Harris’ help-a-fellow-Golden-Stater trip is designed to gin up local press and turn out Democratic voters, who could doom the governor if they don’t vote Tuesday. She is a former California senator and state attorney general.

Harris is scheduled to make a public appearance with Newsom at 1 p.m. on September 8, 2021.

Around 1 p.m. Pacific time, Harris and Newsom will appear at an electrical worker union’s apprentice training center in San Leandro. She will then board a return flight to DC.

Biden also will campaign for Newsom in the final stretch, White House press secretary Jen Psaki said Tuesday. Biden last year carried the state by 29 percentage points over then-President Donald Trump.

California most recently recalled a governor in 2003 when voters fired Democratic Gov. Gray Davis and replaced him with Republican actor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The stakes are especially high due to health concerns about Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein, who is 88 years old. If she were to resign or die in office, the governor would pick her replacement. A Republican replacement would flip control of the evenly divided Senate, which is currently controlled by Democrats because Harris breaks tie votes in their favor.

If more than half of voters support Newsom’s recall, he will be removed from office and replaced by the top-polling potential replacement candidate.

Conservative radio host Larry Elder, a prominent TV ad spokesman for a fish oil supplement called Relief Factor, is leading in polls of possible replacements, followed by Democrat Kevin Paffrath, a YouTube personality.

Reality TV star Caitlyn Jenner, an Olympic gold medalist formerly known as Bruce, also is vying to replace Newsom and would be the country’s first transgender governor. She lags far behind in polling.
