NYC council candidate caught in BDSM dungeon shopping film about failed run

Maybe they’ll call it “Sex and the City Council.”

Zack Weiner, a former city council candidate who made headlines last month after footage of him in a BDSM dungeon leaked online, is in talks to make a movie about his experience.

Weiner’s unsuccessful Democratic primary campaign for the Upper West Side’s District 6 was documented by mutual friend and cinematographer Alexander J. Hufschmid, known for his work as an executive producer of Mel Gibson’s dark Christmas comedy “Fatman.”

Now Weiner and campaign manager Joe Gallagher want to get the material up on the big screen.

“Zack and Joe ran a yearlong earnest campaign which had material impact on the neighborhood. There has been hundreds of hours of video documentation of that year. The Weiner campaign wants that story to be told,” a spokesman for the now defunct campaign told The Post, adding “We are weighing our options in regards to the footage.”

Weiner and Gallagher both have backgrounds in filmmaking and acting. Weiner’s father, Eric Weiner, is a co-creator of the children’s television show “Dora The Explorer.”

The final project, however, remains up in the air. Both he and Gallagher accused Hufschmid of solely wanting to focus on the sex tape, which briefly made Weiner a nationwide sensation.

“Ninety percent of our conversations with him revolve around the scandal,” said Gallagher, who called Hufschmid “obsessed” with the footage.

Hufschmid did not respond to multiple requests for comment from The Post.

Weiner was an unknown candidate when video of him bound and gagged by an ex girlfriend began circulating on Twitter last month. His campaign flagged the video to The Post, but said they had no idea how the footage made its way online. It was eventually removed by the social media company.

“I am a proud BDSMer. I like BDSM activity,” Weiner told The Post at the time, owning up to his kinky ways. He later released a statement saying he was “not ashamed” of the situation.

The video brought a burst of media attention for the candidate, but it was ultimately not enough to power him to victory. He took last place with just 2.5 percent of the vote for his Upper West Side district.

Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer won the race on the initial ballot with 53.7 percent of voters ranking her first.

The day before the election Brewer told The Post she was “surprised” by the video, noting she hadn’t watched it, adding, “it was not what I would think that somebody would be doing and running for office.”
