NYU, other top US schools, evacuated over bomb threats

New York University evacuated three of its Greenwich Village buildings after receiving multiple bomb threats Thursday evening.

The threats were leveled at the Stern School of Business, Center for Neural Science, and Hebrew Union College, the university tweeted at 7:24 p.m.

The NYPD was unable to immediately comment on the nature of the situation when reached by The Post.

About ten minutes later, on the other side of the country, the University of Southern California tweeted that three of its buildings were being evacuated due to a bomb threat, and the LAPD was on the scene.

Earlier Thursday evening, reports of a bomb threat at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology were “unsubstantiated,” according to the Cambridge Police.

“We are simply taking precautions that we need to and making sure that we’re going forward with MIT to ensure that there’s nothing suspicious,” spokesman Jeremy Warnick told The Post.

There was also an "unsubstantiated" bomb threat at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

On Sunday, portions of Columbia University, and Ivy League counterparts Brown and Cornell, were evacuated after cops received fake bomb threats.

The NYPD said the threats to the Manhattan campus were deemed to be a “swatting” prank: a growing phenomenon where anonymous trouble-makers alert police to a fake crime, sometimes prompting a response by SWAT officers.
