Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and husband Chasten announced their newborn son, Gus, is safely back home after a “terrifying” hospital stay.

“After 3 weeks in and out of hospitals, 125 miles in an ambulance, and a terrifying week on a ventilator, Gus is home, smiling, and doing great!” Chasten, 32, posted on Twitter Friday afternoon.

Pete, 39, tweeted an hour later that he was “thankful, relieved, and reflecting a great deal on the mixture of joy, terror, and love that is parenting.”

Buttigieg, a former Democratic presidential candidate, sparked controversy when he took family leave following the August arrival of the twins, who were born prematurely — despite the country’s supply-chain crisis.

The couple didn’t say what caused their infant son to be hospitalized.

“We’re so relieved, thankful, and excited for him and Penelope to take DC by storm!” Chasten later posted as a wave of well-wishes poured in on social media.

“A special thank you to the countless medical professionals who helped Gus (and his dads and sister) along the way,” he added. “We are so grateful for your tenderness and care.”

They adopted Joseph “Gus” August and his sister, Penelope Rose, over the summer.
