A pregnant Philadelphia woman was gunned down after leaving her own baby shower on Saturday night, cops said.
The 32-year-old woman, who wasn’t identified, was shot multiple times in the head and belly at around 8:30 p.m. while she unloaded gifts from the shower to carry into her home on Palmetto Street in the Lawncrest section of the city, ABC 6 reported.
“I mean, the person that did this couldn’t be more cowardly,” Deputy Police Commissioner Christine Coulter told the station.
An officer heard the gunfire and rushed to the scene. The woman, who was seven months pregnant, was taken to Einstein Medical Center where both she and her unborn child were pronounced dead minutes apart from one another, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer.
There have been no arrests, but police told ABC they believe the victim was the planned target of the shooter or shooters. Roughly 11 gun shell casings were found at the scene, the station said.
Neighbor Tom McDonald said everyone is getting tired of the violence in the area.
“Enough is enough,” McDonald told the station. “It’s time for the city to do something – something.”
The City of Brotherly Love is approaching 500 homicides for the year, which is the most in a year on record for Philadelphia, CBS reported.
