Convicted killer Scott Peterson is expected to be called to the witness stand at a pre-trial hearing in California — involving the 25-year-old disappearance of co-ed Kristin Smart.

Peterson, who was found guilty in 2005 of killing his 27-year-old pregnant wife Laci, knew Smart when she was a student at California Polytechnic State University — and defense lawyers for the suspects in Smart’s 1996 disappearance want to grill him about it, Fox News reported.

Lawyers for Paul Flores, 44, and his father, Ruben Flores, who are charged with murder in Smart’s case, want to question Peterson as part of an assertion that cops failed to consider other possible suspects in the case.

Authorities said Smart disappeared after attending a party in May 1996.

Flores had long been under scrutiny for the co-ed’s presumed death when he was arrested and charged with her rape and murder in April. His father was charged with helping to relocate Smart’s body, which has never been recovered in the case.

Peterson, who met his wife Laci at Cal Poly, was floated as a potential suspect in Smart’s case before, when his name surfaced in the case in 2003.

Peterson was sentenced to death in his wife’s disappearance and slaying. But an appeals court overturned the sentence last year, and prosecutors said in May that they would not pursue the death penalty in the case.

He is still serving life in prison.
