A 19-year-old man has been arrested after a body believed to be his missing father was discovered buried in the backyard of their home in northern Virginia, authorities said.
Philip Nguyen, who lived with his father in Falls Church, was taken into custody Wednesday on suspicion of second-degree murder in the death of his father, Truman Nguyen, 78, Fairfax County police said.
Police said that Truman was reported missing Monday and that one of his associates allegedly told them that his teenage son may have harmed him.
An interview with the son led to the discovery of a body, which was taken to the medical examiner for positive identification and to determine the cause of death, cops said.
Philip was arrested and is being held without bond, news station WTOP reported.
Police haven’t released a motive but said they had been called to the home before for domestic disputes.
“This is the fifth time in 2021 … where a father or a mother or a sister … has been murdered by a son or a brother,” Fairfax County Police Chief Kevin Davis said, WTOP reported. “On four separate occasions in 2021, we have homicide victims whose lives have been taken by sons, and a brother — a disturbing trend indeed.”
