A Dallas teenager fatally shot his mother while she was apparently babysitting her granddaughter, police said.
The 15-year-old shot and killed mom Aime Salinas-Alvarado, 47, inside her home on Friday, then used her car to drive Salinas-Alvarado’s 2-year-old granddaughter to her great-grandparents’ house, according to the Dallas Police Department.
No details were immediately available as to what led to the slaying.
Police had initially responded to a call of an abandoned child around 4:30 p.m. on Friday on McLean Avenue. Officers arrived to find a 2-year-old child that had been left at her great-grandparents’ house by an unknown person.
The child was supposed to be with her grandmother, Salinas-Alvarado, her great-grandparents told cops. Police then conducted a welfare check at Salinas-Alvarado’s home on Lynnacre Drive and found her dead from a single gunshot wound to the head, cops said.
Investigators determined that her teenage son shot and killed her before taking her car and dropping off the child. The unnamed teen then drove to a friend’s house, police said.
He was taken into custody by Dallas police without incident, and “provided a full confession to the homicide detective,” cops said.
The boy was transported to Henry Wade Juvenile Detention Facility and will face charges of capital murder.
