Train derails in Tennessee after crashing into truck: video

A freight train derailed in Tennessee Tuesday afternoon after slicing through a tractor-trailer as it was crossing the tracks, police said.

The crash and subsequent derailment took place in the Chattanooga suburb of Collegedale in Hamilton County at around 1:30 p.m. and was caught on video.

The witness recording appears to show the Norfolk Southern train plowing into a semi hauling a long concrete highway barrier, News Channel 9 reported.

The trailer appeared to be moving very slowly at the time of the crash, which produced a deafening roar, leaving the vehicle in pieces.

The impact apparently triggered the derailment, causing multiple train cars to go off the tracks.

Two people were transported to local hospitals with injuries, but their conditions were not immediately known, Local 3 News reported.

A Norfolk Sothern representative said, “initial reports do no indicate any hazardous material cars involved.”

Separate videos of the aftermath shot by bystanders at the scene show train cars resting on their sides in a wooded area by the railroad tracks.

Collegedale police sent out a tweet asking residents to stay away from the area of the derailment near University Drive and Apison Pike.
