Two Boston cops wounded, suspect dead after standoff

Two Boston police officers were wounded in a wild shootout Tuesday involving a deranged gunman who barricaded himself inside his family home and held cops at bay for hours.

Police responded to a three-story home in the city’s Dorchester neighborhood shortly after 9 a.m., where the gunman was holed up after threatening his family, WCVB-TV reported.

Police spent about six hours trying to negotiate with the suspect before they hurled flashbang grenades inside and shots broke out around 3:30 p.m., the outlet said.

The two officers suffered non-life-threatening wounds to their legs, while the suspect, whose name has not been released, was critically wounded and later pronounced dead.

“Asking for prayers,” the Boston Police Patrolmen’s Association said on Twitter. “Two of our officers transported to hospitals after being shot during confrontation with barricaded suspect. The violence against police officers must stop.”

The gunman’s mother told WCVB that her son had come to visit for a few hours but ended up staying for 10 days — and flipped out when she asked him to leave Tuesday.

She said her son, who has a history of mental illness, demanded a key to the house and pulled a gun on her and his half-brother, sparking the standoff with police.
